Ingredients
Scale
Bar Batter
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup milk
Cinnamon Swirl
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until the mixture is light in color and fluffy in texture, which ensures a tender crumb.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Crack in the eggs one at a time and pour in the vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly until combined for a smooth batter.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening and seasoning.
- Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix gently just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
- Spread Batter: Pour and spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, creating a base layer.
- Make Cinnamon Swirl: Mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon with melted butter until well combined, then evenly spoon this mixture over the batter in the pan.
- Add Remaining Batter and Swirl: Carefully spread the remaining batter over the cinnamon swirl. Using a knife, gently swirl the layers to create a marbled cinnamon effect.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean indicating doneness.
- Cool Bars: Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely on a wire rack to set the texture before frosting.
- Prepare Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired spreading consistency is achieved.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled bars. Cut into 16 squares and serve fresh for maximum delight.
Notes
- Be careful not to overmix the batter once flour is added to keep the bars tender.
- For a stronger cinnamon flavor, add an extra tablespoon of cinnamon to the swirl mixture.
- Ensure the bars are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- These bars can be warmed slightly before serving for a freshly baked sensation.
