Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Packed with sautéed onions, green bell peppers, tender roast beef, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone, this warm, bubbly dip is perfect for gatherings or game day. Serve it with crusty bread, chips, or veggies for a crowd-pleasing treat ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat, sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped

Dairy and Cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, chopped into ¼ inch pieces (or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings and Garnish

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • Green onion, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside for later use.
  2. Sauté vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until they are lightly caramelized. Then, add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Mix cheese base: While the vegetables cook, place the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese in a medium-sized bowl. Stir well until all the cheeses are evenly combined into a smooth mixture.
  4. Combine all ingredients: Add the chopped roast beef deli meat, sautéed onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper to the cheese mixture. Stir thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated. Optionally, reserve 1 tablespoon of the chopped roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish.
  5. Assemble the dip: Spread the combined dip evenly into the prepared greased baking dish or skillet. If you reserved any meat and vegetables for garnish, sprinkle them evenly over the top of the dip.
  6. Bake the dip: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping. Enjoy your warm, cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Dip!

Notes

  • Use deli roast beef sliced thinly for the best texture in the dip.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for smooth mixing.
  • For a spicier dip, add a pinch of crushed red pepper or hot sauce to the cheese mixture.
  • You can substitute provolone with Swiss cheese or more mozzarella if preferred.
  • If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, use a baking dish but ensure it’s well greased.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
